Hydrex Honda’s Tommy Hill starts from the second row and is a possible challenger for one of the podium steps at Croft for the tenth round of the MCE British Superbike Championship in only his first weekend with the team.
Even though the Lingfield-based rider has had an extremely unsettled year, his performance on track never disappoints making him still one of the most sought-after riders in the paddock. Hill started this season in World Superbikes, but after leaving the team he has since ridden for Worx Crescent Suzuki and now Hydrex Honda who he will continue with for the remainder of the year.
“Obviously I don’t want to keep changing teams as then it is a case of getting used to a new team, new bikes and new electronics. At the start of the year I had to make the decision with the first team Honda Althea as I just wasn’t moving forward, I was not comfortable and there was a big language barrier," said Hill, speaking to bikesportnews.com this morning.
“I then got with Worx Suzuki and I got on with the team really well it’s a shame we didn’t quite get a podium but I had good results. Then obviously Sylvain [Guintoli] came back. After that I had a lot of interest with a lot of teams and I was really focusing on 2010, but obviously I am a racer and I want to be racing so when Shaun [Muir – Team Manager] called for me to ride I said yes.”
This opportunity has put focus back onto obtaining racing and then he will concentrate on narrowing down his offers for next season. Hill said: “There are no real deals unless you’ve got a real contract in front of you signed, a lot of people can promise you the world and there’s been a lot of interest, some that I am sort of taking with a pinch of salt at the moment.”
“As for where I will be I am not ruling out World Supersport with a good team, but also I have unfinished business in the British. If I could win the championship with a team I would welcome that with open arms and do the job 100%.”
Hill as most racers has also stayed focused on his fitness as he is battling is some of the toughest championships out there so when the call comes he is prepared. He has also successfully adapted to different makes of machinery and regularly runs in the top five from the start of the weekend. This however sets a high bench mark for the rest of the weekend that he needs to try and keep.
Hill said: “We are adjusting things to move forward with really, trying to get bike the best it can be. I do put a lot of pressure on myself as I want to win races and do well. So far we are going alright, hopefully we can get two consistent results and at the back of my mind I would like a podium. Two top fives if not be on the podium this weekend. But I want to get on the podium before the end of the season and get the results for the team.”
