TAG Triumph’s Peter Ward says the various issues that have held him back through the season have started to be worked through and despite a crash on Friday at no fault of his own continued to qualify 17th, the second highest cup rider at Croft in the Fuchs-Silkolene Supersport Cup earlier today.
Ward fell yesterday as he hit oil left on track by another rider and is suffering a little with his arm that was hit hard in the crash. Talking about his weekend and season Ward said: “We are getting more consistent, I wouldn’t say stronger as I was further up earlier in the season but then we had problems.”
“We’ve just struggled with little things all year but we have started to iron them out. It was going ok until the crash yesterday. My problem today is my arm I seem to be lacking strength. Qualifying has never been my strong point, a little too inconsistent only that’s my fault really as I struggle with the softer tyre, but we will see what we can do.”
Ward’s season was rescued at the start of the year by team mate Paul Young after his original ride fell through and using one of Young’s bikes from last year he had the full intention to have a go at winning the Cup title. As usual in racing things have not gone his way and even though his riding has been hindered Ward is still clear proof of how tight and competitive the class is this year.
Ward said: “I love the bike and it is good, we’ve just had our issues on race day not qualifying where other’s had their problems in qualifying. Also there are 20 guys out there going really fast, a few tenths more would put you a lot further up.”
“Unfortunately I’ve been on the backend of those which has been frustrating. Apart from Snetterton I have gone faster everywhere than when I have been there before so from that angle I am really happy with my riding.”
Ward wants to end the season on a high and on the podium before looking at his options for next year. There is no doubt that he certainly wants to do something and if possible stay in Supersport as he feels he has unfinished business.
