DONINGTON BSB: HARRIS AND MASON BACK IN THE SWING

Karl Harris and Gary Mason have made a welcome return to the British Superbike Paddock at Donington Park this weekend - and for Harris it's like he hasn't been away or had a series of huge crashes.
The Yorkshireman missed the rescheduled round of Brands Hatch on medical grounds  Following the huge crash at Thruxton where he was knocked off his bike by the GSX-R1000 of Tom Sykes, he also suffered two further crashes at the following round at Oulton Park.

Harris goes into the fifth round of the 2008 season with zero points to his name, now back to fitness he is more determined to change the constant bad luck that has plagued him so far.  He said: "I had a holiday to Skegness which was really good and my foot is all ok now. Things are going really well, I finished second [in first practice] and I was consistent with lap times."
The Yamaha rider is one to watch this weekend as he has more to prove than anybody else this weekend and he never ceases to amaze people with how nothing will stop him racing and his positive, excitable attitude never fades no matter what is thrown at him, including a blue Rizla Suzuki.
Mason, meanwhile, rider has permanently taken over from James Buckingham after his decision to take a  break from racing.  Mason had his first test on the Honda CBR1000 at Mallory Park earlier this week.  Following his first session this morning Gary said: "Obviously we are getting the bike set for me, trying different things.  I am not yet pleased with my time because of I know what times I can do around here.  I need more feeling in the front and so far we have lifted the rear up to put more weight on the front. It is fun to be back on a Superbike and the team is really good."
Buckingham, who is still heavily involved with the team, said: "We had a few problems this morning, but nothing we can't fix.  We lost a bit of time sorting them out but it will be alright.  Gary needs more feel in the front, we had a bit of problem with the rear shock.  We just need to make bike feel like his, once it's setup he will get faster and faster."
Explaining his decision not to ride, Buckingham said: "I need to rest my legs. Well rest both physically and mentally.  I did my legs back in 2006 and they are still not right, they are getting better, but not very fast.  We need to raise the team's profile, but I was coming to race meetings dealing with the setup and managing the team, as well as trying to race the bike.  Now I can just concentrate on the team, the bike and getting it setup for Gary who will ride it well."
James intends to take each day at a time and see what happens, the if or when he returns to racing is unanswered, but his dedication is no less.  When asked why Gary was chosen to join the team he said: "Stobart Honda mentioned him and he was up at Brands Hatch the other weekend so we had a talk and went from there."
