Rob Mac Racing's Karl Harris had blitzed the British Superbike field in the third and final free practice session at Donington Park this morning - finishing half a second quicker than second-placed man Tom Sykes.
Harris and Airwaves Ducati's Shane Byrne, who doesn't appear to be suffering from the imposed ten kilo weight penalty, traded blows right through the session with Harris putting in a 1'34.454 with barely five minutes gone.
Byrne and Cal Crutchlow then countered with Byrne hitting a 1'33.061 with eleven minutes gone to take him fastest. Hawk Kawasaki's Scott Smart also got himself up to eighth on the same lap, but then faded towards the end.
Harris was the first man under the 1'33 barrier but Byrne was soon back at him, putting in a 1'32.508. Harris went quicker again at half-distance 1'32.333 which stood until eight minutes to go when Sykes put in his fastest lap, a 1'32.292.
Harris was clearly not content with second, so went out again and put in two successive laps of 1'31.842 and then 1'31.776 to stake his claim as the quickest.
A slow-starting Leon Haslam clambered his way up the leaderboard to eventually finish fourth behind team-mate Crutchlow on their HM Plant Hondas.
