Donington BSB: Haslam on pole after Superpole cancellation

JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Leon Haslam will start the opening MCE British Superbike race from pole position, as he set the quickest time during the combined free practice sessions. Superpole was cancelled because of an engine blow-out in the earlier Ducati TriOptions race, and a track clean up ensued at Donington Park.

The BSB team spent over an hour trying to clean the circuit, which was contaminated with a lot of oil between Schwantz Curve and Coppice, and for health and safety reasons all track activity was stopped unitl tomorrow.

Going with the combined times the front row is made up of Haslam lapping a 1’29.323, his team-mate Luke Mossey, who went 0.1s slower than the Smalley rider and former BSB Superbike champ, Josh Brookes.

The second row is headed by Smiths BMW’s Peter Hickman, with reigning champ, Shane Byrne sandwiched in-between the BMW and McAMS Yamaha’s James Ellison.

Moto Rapido Ducati’s John Hopkins had a crash in the second free practice session, but his team got his bike ready for FP3 and he unfortunately crashed on only his first lap in wet conditions, but was declared OK at the trackside. But the American had already done enough yesterday to start P7.

Ex World Superbike champion, Sylvain Guintoli was the fastest during a wet final timed session, but he was not fast enough to improve from his dry FP2 time, and will start from the third row, with Be Wiser Ducati’s Glenn Irwin in ninth on the grid.

Row four is made of Tyco BMW’s Christian Iddon, BSB debutant Bradley Ray, and fellow British Superbike rookie, Davide Giugliano. Click here for times
