DONINGTON BSB: PLATER TAKES THE SUPERSPORT WIN

HM Plant Honda’s Steve Plater stormed through the grid to take the win in the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship and due to a post race exclusion Dan Linfoot of North West 200 Coca Cola Zero took second and Billy McConnell of MAP Raceways Yamaha in third.
Originally TAG Triumph rider Paul Young claimed second across the finishing line, but due to his bike being identified as underweight Young has been excluded from the results.
Hudson Kennaugh of Linxcel-Seton Tuning took the lead from pole and continued to pull away to build a gap of 4.4s, but due to obvious problems Kennaugh started to lose time and fall back down the order to eventually finish 14th in the 18th lap.
The battle for second for most of the race was between Linfoot and Ben Wilson of Gearlink Kawasaki who got a flying start from tenth on the grid.  As the lights went out Wilson swooped from the left side of the track across to the right putting him on the inside and in about fifth place before they hit the first corner.
In lap one he claimed a few more places allowing him to be battling for second.  In the later part of the race Wilson fell slightly down the order, but still finished a deserved, now fourth place.
The battles continued with Linfoot and Young whilst Plater moved up the order from ninth place to battle for the lead.  After taking it in turns to lead the race, Plater took second on lap 15 at the Esses before getting in front before the end of the lap and until the chequered flag.
This didn’t stop Linfoot and Young, with Young having the final say in addition to providing some great entertainment that included Linfoot diving up the inside at Goddards, but Young would pull it back on the straight.
Billy McConnell of MAP Racesways Yamaha, Tom Grant of Centurion Racing and James Westmoreland of JW Racing were putting each other to the test, but it was McConnell who battled through to hold off the others and take fourth in the end before being promoted to third.
Grant finished in seventh, now sixth, behind James Webb of Padgetts Motorcycles who started from 16h on the grid. Westmoreland managed to stay in the top ten in ninth, now eighth behind Kev Coghlan of Colin Appleyard/Macadam Racing.
Plater now leads the championship by a mere point ahead of McConnell and Oulton Park winner Daniel Cooper of Centurion Racing who after the inclusion finished tenth in the race today.
Astro Racing Honda Sam Lowes took the win in the Cup Championship putting him joint first in the championship standings with Dean Hipwell.  Hipwell finished 25th overall which gave a lot of points away.  David Paton of Team Paramed UK finished second and Robbie Brown of AGB Transport/Packet media took the last podium step.
