Donington BSB: Rea 'surprised' by Superbike learning curve

OMG Suzuki's Gino Rea has been pleasantly surprised by how quickly he has adapted from 600cc racing to a full British Superbike but is well aware of what he is going up against this weekend at the Bennetts-backed opening round.

Until this year, Rea has ridden in Moto2 and WorldSSP but felt the time was right to step into BSB, and is carrying good momentum from testing.

“I have been surprised by the transition to the Superbike; I was expecting to need more time to adapt and feel natural but it seems my style suits the Superbike and from the start of testing I felt comfortable straight away. I think one of my strengths has always been adapting quickly; different bikes, different tracks and that has helped for sure," said Rea.

“Testing has gone well but I don’t want to get carried away as we have had a test in Spain and then the official test at Donington, but you can’t make predictions from testing, it is what happens in the races that count.

“What I can say is that I am confident and I feel that we have a good momentum from pre-season. We have realistic expectations of what we can achieve as we are a new team, but we have moved on pretty well already and we have a good base to start out with. We want to start next weekend the best we can and then keep building from there.”
