Shane Byrne: “On my first couple of laps this afternoon I was really tempted to pull into the garage and just hold fire as the conditions were ridiculous. I decided I couldn’t give up before I properly tried though. Once I thought I had secured pole position I came in with about 20 minutes of the session to go. I decided to sit it out and see if anybody would go faster which, towards the end, my good friend Michael Rutter did. When I went back out the conditions had improved and the few changes my mechanics had made meant the bike felt even better and fortunately I was able to retake pole. It was a good job by the Airwaves Ducati team today; I hope I am able to do them proud tomorrow.”
James Ellison: "I'm well happy with that. I was feeling really comfortable on the bike and I think I just went too quick too early on the out lap when I slid off, and after that I didn't really expect to come out with a second place. I just got more and more confident and quicker and quicker, and I had a couple of scary moments but I just got my head down and went for it. I'm hoping for a couple of podiums tomorrow but this has definitely given me a lot more confidence."
Cal Crutchlow: “The weather was freezing cold and I’m freezing cold! I still enjoyed it out there though. I’m happy with the front row and tomorrow I want two good races where I hope to be standing on the podium at the end of both of them. Today’s conditions were very tricky and quite dangerous in a way, as there was standing water on some sections of the track. I think I could have been on pole but I got held up a little in the last part of the session. Either way I’m happy with how things have gone and I’m ready for tomorrow.”
Karl Harris: "I don't really know what to say, the first crash just spun up on me and the second was totally unexpected. I was on a purple sector on the first lap and it felt great, I was nearly through the corner and it just spat me off. I'm not hurt and I'm as determined as ever to get some valuable points tomorrow."
Leon Haslam: “I would have liked to have been on the front row, but I’m not too disappointed on the whole. Tomorrow’s the important day and that’s what I’m concentrating on and looking towards. The conditions have been very tricky today and I had a small crash towards the end of the session at Coppice. I’m OK and I’m still confident we can do a good job in wet or dry conditions. I need plenty of points from tomorrow’s two 20-lap races and I’m going to be giving 100% as always.”
Leon Camier: "I am not too happy with my performance this afternoon as I know I could have gone a lot quicker than I did. I struggled with traffic again and just could not seem to get any decent clear laps in. It is a shame as the wet settings on the Airwaves Ducati were feeling good and I know I could have gone quicker. I am not too worried; if I can get a good start and remain consistent tomorrow I am confident I can secure a good result.”
Tom Sykes: "I know in the dry we can be competitive but it will be hard work as I'm starting from the fourth row of the grid. My Rizla Suzuki has felt good all weekend and Donington is a circuit I enjoy so I'm hoping we can pull something out of the bag tomorrow."
Atsushi Watanabe: "I'm not so happy with today. I have seen the DVD of Donington Park and lots of riders crashed in wet conditions, now I'm one of those riders. I like the track and I will work hard to get a result for my team. I don't want to be in 22nd place that is not for me."
