Bennetts Suzuki man Christian Iddon is finally beginning to get over a sickness bug that has had time either on the loo or curled up in bed for the past two days and managed to muster a fifth-row start for tomorrow’s opening MCE British Superbike race at Donington Park.
The multiple British Supermoto Champion hasn’t been able to hold down any food which meant no ebergy to do any proper race distance runs so Iddon is hoping he can take away some top tens from this weekend.
“It started on Thursday, nothing horrendous, just some sickness. I couldn’t get out of being curled up, my stomach was that creased and I don’t know how I managed to get down to the garage but I got my leathers on and went out,” said Iddon*, speaking to bikesportnews.com after qualifing.
“Yesterday, I thought I was over it so I had some cornflakes, but they just re-appeared after an hour and a half. I was up every hour on the hour on the loo. I felt better today but had no energy because I had no food in me.
“I haven’t managed to get into a rhythm all weekend just because of being poorly. I have done a few laps and then started making mistakes because I am tired. It hasn’t slowed me down in terms of an outright laptime but we haven’t done any runs which isn’t a good way to find a direction.
“To be 13th isn’t as high as I wanted to be but but we're somewhere we can race from. If we can get a couple of solid top 10s from this weekend I'll be happy with that start, all things considered."
*Iddon went into full details about his illness but we think it would more than likely impact on your dining enjoyment this evening, so we have left it out.
