Dubliner Jack Kennedy will no longer race for Team WD-40 in the MCE British Superbike Championship for the rest of the season, but he still remains under contract with GR Motorsport.
Team boss Brent Gladwin told bikesportnews.com at the track that Kennedy will still be involved in certain ‘bits and bobs’ with the team, but they have decided to stand him down from competing in races for the final three rounds.
“The team decided that following the season up to now it is not working and so Jack is under contract to GR Motorsport and as part of that we have decided to stand him down for his duties racing for the rest of the season,” Gladwin said.
“He still remains under contract with us and he will have certain bits and bobs to do, but as far as riding the bike is concerned that is it, finished with.”
The team have Aussie Josh Hook as the sole rider in the BSB class, but they are not adverse to another rider sitting on the vacant bike, but only if the right opportunity comes along.
The WD-40 team are also concentrating on Tarran Mackenzie in the Dickies British Supersport class, who is in contention for winning the title.
Gladwin added: “We are looking at our options and our plan is to see what our options are for another rider. If there is an opportunity for us I am sure we will do something with it, if not then we wont.
“We are not just going to do something with a knee jerk reaction. There are only 30 days of the season left and it would be nice to finish doing something special. We have got Josh and Tarran to concentrate on.
“Tarran is doing a fantastic job in a battle with Westy in the championship and that is a priority and Josh is still learning tracks, and the last two rounds are at tracks he knows. If the right opportunity presents itself the other bike is sat there waiting to go.”
