Donington BSB test: New parts the key for Parkes

Milwaukee Yamaha’s Broc Parkes found the cold British weather conditions a shock during the official MCE British Superbike test at Donington Park today, but the Aussie battled through and felt that his R1 has a lot of potential. The team are expecting new bike parts soon and Parkes is hopeful that this will make the bike even stronger.

His crew will recieve a new swing-arm, tank and engine parts and Parkes is confident that this will make his Yamaha even more competitive - so that he can challenge for a top five place. He is not used to the cold conditions of Blighty, and it came as a surprise to him just how cold, wet and windy it can be in the UK.

“It is my first kind of time in England and it was colder than I thought. I didn’t go out in the morning sessions and it was quite difficult to get a rhythm this afternoon. Hopefully it doesn’t get worse than this weather. I didn’t feel right going out and going crazy and wrecking a bike and I tried to get as comfortable as I could, especially in this weather,” said Parkes, speaking to bikesportnews.com at the circuit.

“I think the bike has a lot of potential but it is early days and we need to sort it out a bit better but we are waiting on a lot of parts, but the first round is going to be difficult. We are waiting on swing-arm, link, tank and engine parts to come in. After today we have more of a target and the competition is really tough and I want to be in the top five and today I was just outside the top ten - so next week we can battle for a good place.”
