Milwaukee Yamaha's James Ellison is ready to hit the ground running when he rolls out of pitlane at Cadwell Park on Saturday for first practice at the MCE British Superbike round.
Positive test sessions at the track, with some good but unrevealed laptimes, have put the Kendal man in a great frame of mind for a circuit that he has learned to love over the years and he will be up for it from the word go.
"I didn't used to like going to Cadwell, apart from the Mountain, but I learned to love it because you can't go to a meeting thinking like that. I was the same with Knockhill but they're both places I enjoy now," said Ellison, speaking to bikesportnews.com.
"Our testing has been positive there and we can hit the ground running from first practice. It's been said that I am asleep on Fridays but that's not the case, we have been there or thereabouts all year but I spend free practice setting a bike up for the race, not for one lap in qualifying.
"Historically, some team managers have expressed concern about me on the first day of practice but I am a racer and all about what we can do on raceday. We should be on the front row in qualifying, like we have been this year, and we will have the race pace.
"It will be good to cement my Showdown spot this weekend so we can concentrate on the rest of the season and the tracks that will suit the R1 better than some we have had this year. I don't know what the maths are, but I need to get that place before we leave on Monday."
