Airwaves Yamaha team boss Colin Wright has revealed that James Ellison's rear Pirelli tyre was travelling 55-metres per lap further than team-mate Leon Camier's during free practice at Thruxton.
After the first two sessions, the Kendal man was two seconds slower around the Hampshire circuit than his team-mate and when the team studied the data, it showed that because of wheelspin and differing lines, his rear tyre would have covered an extra half a lap over race distance.
"We all sat down and looked at the data from the bike and at the lap analysis to find out where we could make James a bit quicker. It was then we discovered how much further his rear wheel was travelling in comparison to Leon's," said Wright, talking to bikesportnews.com.
"His front wheel was also going further than Leon by about 20 metres, which is a long way over a 20-lap race, especially here, so we looked at lines and made some adjustments to the electronics, which obviously worked!"
