JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s James Ellison is using the Cartagena Pro-Test today to get to grips with the added brake horsepower on his ZX-10, after it was engine tuned to regain some added power that was lacking towards the end of the last MCE British Superbike season.
The Cumbrian started off the test session in Spain at a steady pace, but as he gets more track time under his belt he’s now only three tenths off his best lap time that he set at the track this time last year. But with extra power it means tinkering with the electronics, fuelling and gears, which is what his team are working on today.
“The test has been good, it was a bit steady at the beginning, but we have a new bike tuner as we were lacking power last year and hopefully we have bridged that gap,” said Ellison, speaking to bikesportnews.com from the track.
“The bike does feel faster so we are tweaking things now. We have adjusted the electronics and the fuelling and the gearing. We have to set the bike up for that as everything is different from the notes from last year, as the engine has an extra eight to ten break horse power now.
“Basically here in Cartagena it is about getting the bike set-up right. We are up the sharp end, and hopefully we will leave with a decent lap time, and I want to go quicker than I did last year, then I will be happy and I am only three tenths off that now.”
