‘Experimenting’ pays off for Iddon at successful test

Halsall Suzuki’s newest recruit Christian Iddon is enjoying being back in the MCE British Superbike paddock after a few years away in the World Superbike series. The Stockport lad had his first chance to really get a feel for his GSX-R at the Pro-Test at Cartagena and made sure that he used up every bit of track time that was available to him.

He had fun ‘experimenting’ on his new bike, which included concentrating on fuelling and body position. But for the former Alstare Bimota rider it was working on the suspension that was on top of his wish list in Spain. Iddon is also getting on well his new team-mate Josh Waters and experienced Team Manager Jack Valentine.

The Halsall Suzuki outfit were not focusing on lap times, but were still impressed with the times clocked by bike debutant Iddon, especially on Saturday where he put down a 1’34.4. But one thing that the former World Superbike racer has missed is competing in front of his home fans, and is excited to come back to competing full time on home soil.

“It has been good as we have been doing a lot of experimenting, and throwing everything at the Suzuki. There is a lot of information we have been working with and we have been testing what it feels like being long, short, tall, and working out different geometries. We are not doing the Spanish Championship so I am not too worried about finding a setting for Cartagena. It is just information gaining really this week,” said Iddon, speaking to bikesportnews.com.

“The first few days we were concentrating on fuelling and a bit on body position work, and we have been messing around mainly with suspension. We have tried some different links and springs and it has been interesting as it has thrown up results that we didn’t expect.

“There is one specific area that I am struggling in a bit and that is rear grip on the corners and we trying to find a different direction, to see what is effecting it. We have been focusing on the back end of the bike too. I enjoy riding the bike. I was proper rusty at first but I have got my head around things now and the guys are all really nice. It is good to be here and back riding and my confidence is growing all the time.”
