Glenn Irwin dislodged Kyle Ryde and OMG Racing from the top of the timesheets on the second day of pre-season testing ahead of this weekend’s 2024 Bennetts British Superbike Championship opener in Navarra.

The Ulsterman hit the summit with a best lap of 1m 36.678secs during the morning session, giving him a minor margin over the close-following Ryan Vickers.

Irwin, who comes into the season bidding for an elusive first BSB title after just missing out on last year’s crown, would end the day 0.019s up on Yamaha rival Vickers, who was the fastest rider in the afternoon. 

Day one pacesetter Kyle Ryde chased his OMG Racing team-mate in third position, the Mansfield rider recovering from an off and a technical issue to emerge two tenths shy of the ultimate pace. 

Best of the BMW contingent was Josh Brookes, the Monster Energy by FHO Racing BMW rider four tenths down on Irwin in fourth place, ahead of Danny Kent, who impressed again in fifth as he continues to get acquainted with his McAMS Racing Yamaha R1.

Honda riders Andrew Irwin and Tommy Bridewell lapped a similar pace in sixth and eighth, the latter also suffering a crash. The Fireblade riders sandwiched Jason O’Halloran on the Completely Motorbikes FS-3 Racing Kawasaki in seventh.

Christian Iddon concluded his day in ninth place on the Oxford Racing Products Ducati, ahead of Rory Skinner, who rounded out the top ten on the Cheshire Mouldings BMW M 1000 RR.

Testing continues on Thursday with one more session before the race weekend and season gets underway on Saturday.
