David Hallett of Ross Aldridge racing wants 2009 season to start now after ending this year on such a high at Brands Hatch over the weekend.
Initially due to limited budget, Hallett was running on part worn tyres, but was fortunate to have a set bought for him to aid his weekend of which he is thankful for. Hallet said: “The new tyres transformed the bike, straight away I dropped a second."
"I qualified in 19th and only 0.7s off pole position. This is my best qualifying yet, I was 19th at Knockhill, but that was in the wet where as this was in the dry.” Hallett held his qualifying position as he crossed the finish line after freshly battling with riders such as Andy Weymouth and Ben Wylie.
He said: “When the race was about to start I was looking around thinking I like it up here, I was up with the likes of Steven Neate and Joe Dickinson. I did ruin the start as I did a couple of wheelies so I lost a few places, but I took the outside line going into paddock."
"This was good as everybody went on the inside so I was able to cut a few noses off and keep that going into Druids to move up to 17th. I did lose a few places as the race went on as I was riding with people I hadn’t ridden with before, but then I found my rhythm and managed to gain a couple of places back."
"I saw [Andy] Weymouth and I was for the first timing aiming for the third place within the cup. Due to our settings I was spinning up coming out of the corners, I couldn’t match them on the throttle, but would gain on them on the brakes and mid corner.”
Hallett had numerous problems at the start of the season, but has scored points in every round since Mallory. The most eventful was at the last round at Silverstone, which clearly demonstrates his determination to prove his dedication and racing enthusiasm.
Within the 11th round Hallett crashed twice in the race, but he wasn’t going to settle for a DNF and continued to finish the race. With his non defeatist attitude he scored valuable points allowing him to take fifth place in the overall cup championship as the 2008 season drew to a close.
He said: “I had a good start and got into a rhythm, but I had to take evasive action to stop me hitting another rider who went wide in front of me and I tucked the front in braking. For the majority of the crash I was on top of the bike so it wasn’t damaged too badly so I could rejoin. However the brake lever was pushed out of position and I couldn’t get to it properly, that caused me to tuck the front again.”
Hallett is purely excited after seeing and proving he can run with riders of these standards, and also how even though it was a challenge, he rode with them better than he expected giving him a huge confidence boost.
Hallett said: “I would like to give a huge thank you to all that have helped me, especially Ross Aldridge Solicitors, I am really grateful for what they have done. I now don’t want a winter, I want to start the season all over again and show people what I can do.”
