Ridersm BMW’s Martin Jessopp is still 50/50 as to whether he will be fit in time to race at Snetterton in the MCE British Superbike Championship next weekend.
The Yeovil based rider is still recovering from a broken coccyx, which he sustained after crashing out in the second free practice session at Knockhill. Jessopp understands that because of his injury, the recovery process will not be fast, and he is still in a lot of pain.
“I am recovering, but as expected it is quite a slow recovery, they have said that it is about seven weeks till I am fully recovered so it is still quite early down the road. But I am up on my feet and moving around but I feel better when I am moving around, it is when I am sat down that it can be quite painful,” said Jessopp, speaking to bikesportnews.com.
“I tumbled down the track and ended up in the gravel and was led on my back and I was in pain, and it was like a big burning sensation. All my body was numb around that area, I knew it was bad and hoped it was not something worse, like internal. But the pain was quite bad.”
The rider has not given up all hope of returning to racing at Snetterton, and his aim now is to make sure he is fit enough to compete next week, but he knows it won’t be easy.
“I plan to do Snetterton that is my goal. But I am taking everyday as it comes. The guys are prepping the bike as if I was going there. Really I am not going to know until Tuesday, Wednesday next week.
“I would say it is 50 /50 whether the truck will be leaving for Snetterton or not, but there is nothing I can really do. Everything I do tends to aggravate it, and when I am sat in the van driving for more than twenty minutes it hurts for an hour or so. Unfortunately there is nothing I can do to speed it up, but hopefully time will heal my injury.”
