KNOCKHILL BSB: FIRST SEASON WIN FOR BURNS

Splitlath Yamaha’s Joe Burns took his first win of the season in race one at Knockhill in the sixth round of the Metzeler National Superstock 600 Championship in a crash frenzy race which saw the safety car out on a track three times and a total of eight riders not finish.
There was a breath taking moment as the lights went out with one rider stalling on the grid and amazingly was only hit by one rider, fortunately both of them stayed on to continue with the race.
Burns led into the first corner with Gearlink Kawasaki Jamie Hamilton closely behind, Luke Mossey had a good start to be sitting in third from his fifth place start.  The race hadn’t long started before the safety car came out following a collision with three riders.
As the race progressed on lap five Burns and Hamilton pulled away slightly, but Mossey soon joined the party to make it a leader trio.  In the mean time Jesse Trayler of MSS Colchester Kawasaki worked his way up through the grid to take eventually sit on the back of the leading trio.
It was lap nine when the safety car come out again for a couple of laps, but just as it was on its pull in lap yet another collision occurred which saw Luke Stapleford of Buildbase Bournmouth Kawasaki clipped by another rider putting him and his bike in the middle of the track.  Immediately the safety car lights were back on for another two laps before the race continued on lap 13.
Not long after Mossey had moved ahead of Hamilton for second, Trayler continued to plough ahead to take second on the penultimate lap.  Trayler however would not be picking up a trophy today after being given a 20 second penalty due to an overtake whilst the safety car was out.   Therefore across the finish line it was Mossey and Hamilton who joined Burns on the podium.
Jordan Thompson of Colin Appleyard/Macadam Racing finished a solid sixth after a taking a trilling front row start.  Patrick McDougall of Beowulf Racing gained three places in the race to finish seventh, points vital for him in his mission to regain the championship lead.
Someone who will be celebrating is Team HARIBO’s Starmix Jack Groves who after qualifying 16th on the fourth road, finished within the top ten in ninth, is first time at this circuit with his new team.
