With a win and two fourth place finishes at Knockhill, the second round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship was another successful meeting for Christian Iddon and the VisionTrack Ducati left Scotland as the new series leader.
Aided by his second ever BSB win, the points haul enabled him to overhaul Oulton’s triple race winner Jason O’Halloran with his lead now standing at six points.
“I was delighted to get my second BSB win especially so early in the season but it actually felt a bit strange as I didn’t quite have the feeling with the bike I was looking for on Saturday,” said Iddon.
“There were certain places in the past where I was strong but this time I wasn’t and I had a slight lack of sensation through those corners. The good thing though was despite of that, my pace was strong and it’s the lap time that counts!”
Iddon wasn’t able to replicate the win in either of Sunday’s two races but he was in contention throughout in both and had it not been for the second race ending early, he could well have left with at least another podium to his already impressive haul this season.
“I struggled a bit in Sunday’s first race when the bike had a full fuel load and I wasn’t riding as fluid as I have been. I made a few mistakes and got mugged on the last lap which meant I ended up fourth but the second race was a lot better. I was in the mix throughout and my pace was good.”
“It was a sizeable move by Danny (Buchan) and I lost a couple of places but I regained them quite quickly only for the red flag to come out. It was a shame as I felt the race was coming to me and I felt confident of a podium if the race had gone the full distance. With a win and two fourths, I’ve taken a good haul of points and with four trophies from the first six races it’s been a good start to the season.”
