Tarran Mackenzie may not have left Knockhill with the win he wanted but the McAMS Yamaha rider ran with the leading group in all three of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship races at the weekend with two podiums the deserved outcome.
The 25-year old put himself on the back foot after a crash early on in qualifying but fought back from 15th on the grid in Saturday’s race to claim sixth and that put him in contention for the remaining two races.
Third place on each occasion on Sunday saw him contest the race wins each time and after a solid season opener at Oulton Park, he’s now moved up to fourth in the early Championship standings.
“I’m really happy with the results this weekend and am just frustrated with myself for the crash on Saturday in qualifying,” said Mackenzie. “It was totally my fault as I was pushing that little bit more and cost myself a good starting position in the first race.”
“I felt I had podium pace all weekend though but doing it’s another thing so I focused really hard on making a good start in each race to give myself a chance. I was positive going into the races and the first podium on Sunday was a real confidence booster.”
“It took me a while to get by Christian (Iddon) in the second and I was pushing on to get back by him when the red flag came out. I felt good today and that’s six successive top six finishes so it’s nice to be on a run of good results.”
