Danny Buchan may have taken two wins at Knockhill on Sunday but the rider of the weekend and the one who everyone was talking about was Rory Skinner with the Bennetts British Superbike Championship rookie taking a brace of second place finishes at just the second time of asking.
The reigning Supersport champion had enjoyed a solid debut at Oulton Park on the FS-3 Racing Kawasaki and admitted he’d have been happy with top tens at his home round but he far exceeded those expectations.
“I’m lost for words to be honest and taking my first BSB podiums in just my second meeting is unreal, especially with it being my home round. I’m blown away. I’ve always loved the circuit and it’s a weekend I’ll remember although it probably won’t sink in until later in the week,” said the Scot.
Fifth in the opening race of the weekend was an excellent start but things just got better after that. As well as finishing second in Sunday’s opener, he set the fastest lap of the race which put him on pole for the final encounter and he led for more than twenty laps despite the considerable pressure he was under. You would have thought it was his 60th BSB start not his sixth.
“I felt really good out there and the bike’s been flying all weekend but whilst I came into the weekend expecting to go well, I was thinking that would be top tens, which I’d have been really happy with, not two podiums. I’ve led a race, taken a pole position and come away with two seconds so I’m absolutely over the moon.”
