Bradley Perie took a dominant win in the feature Quattro British Supersport Championship race at Knockhill on Sunday, with the Appleyard Macadam Yamaha taking a five second win over Lee Johnston (Ashcourt Racing Yamaha) and Jack Kennedy (HEL Performance/Bournemouth Kawasaki) to extend his Championship lead over the latter to 14 points.
Kyle Smith (Dynavolt Triumph) grabbed the holeshot and led Perie, Johnston, Korie McGreevy (Mar-Train Racing Yamaha) and Charlie Nesbitt (RS Racing Kalex) at the end of the opening lap with Kennedy down in seventh and a lap later, McGreevy got up to third at the expense of Johnston.
Local ace Sam Munro was an early faller and on lap three, Perie took the lead having dived up the inside of Smith at the hairpin with Johnston now back up to third.
The Cumbrian made the most of the clear track in front of him and just four laps later his lead was up to an impressive 1.7s. Johnston made a move on Smith on lap seven and set about closing the gap as Kennedy hauled himself up to fourth.
The Dubliner then forced his way by Smith at Clark’s on lap 11 and Nesbitt did the same at the following corner, the RS Racing rider again the best GP2 Cup rider.
By half race distance, Perie’s advantage was up to 2.2s with Johnston holding a similar gap to Kennedy who continued to have Nesbitt for company. Smith was now in fifth with Eunan McGlinchey (Gearlink Kawasaki) up to sixth at the expense of fellow Northern Irishman McGreevy.
The latter came to grief at the hairpin on lap 17 but back at the front Perie was continually extending his lead, the gap up to 3.4s. Kennedy was closing in on Johnston though and was less than a second adrift as the race entered its final third.
With three laps to go, Perie was an impressive five seconds clear and well on his way to the win but Johnston, Kennedy and Nesbitt were now nose to tail and Kennedy made his move on Johnston at Clark’s on the penultimate lap.
Johnston fought back and reclaimed second at the start of the final lap, a position he held until the chequered flag with Kennedy having to settle for third. Nesbitt took fourth and again took the maximum points in the GP2 Cup class after a strong ride.
Further back, Jack Scott (JJ Racing Harris) came through to take a good fifth, the second of the GP2 Cup riders, with Smith holding on for sixth just ahead of class rookie McGlinchey who enjoyed a good ride.
Jamie Perrin (Spirit Motocorsa) took eighth, and third in the GP2 Cup, with Harry Truelove (Truelove Brothers Yamaha) and Brandon Passch on the second Dynavolt Triumph completed the top ten.
