KNOCKHILL BSB: SYKES WINS; DISASTER FOR HONDA

Rizla Suzuki's Tom Sykes Sykes has taken his third British Superbike victory in row this afternoon at Knockhill, winning race one by more than three seconds – but it was a disaster for HM Plant Honda as both Leon Haslam and Cal Crutchlow failed to finish.
The win puts Sykes just 12 points behind second-placed Crutchlow who crashed out of the race on lap three, losing the front at Carlube corner. Team-mate Haslam went out in strange circumstances a handful of laps later.
The 24-year-old was looking down at his bike as he went over the line to start the tenth lap, and was under observation by race control. He then crashed at Butcher's Corner. It is thought that Haslam had an an electrical problem and then came together with Shane Byrne. Whatever, it gave the works Honda team no points from the race.

Sykes and Rutter duked it out in the opening laps but as soon as the Hudderfield rider passed the NW200 Ducati, there was no stopping him and he cruised to a win. Campionship leader Shane Byrne was second with Hyrex Honda's James Ellison third.
Had he finished, Scott Smart would have got an award as he managed to carve his way from 18th on the grid to ninth by lap nine, and was lapping as fast as the leading group. However, he crashed out at Leslie's on lap 18.

There was no stopping the blue Rizla Suzuki Sykes, who dedicated the win to the World Supersport rider Craig Jones who died last Monday.
Into the first corner Michael Rutter led Leon Haslam, Tom Sykes, James Ellison and Shakey Byrne, until Sykes immediately showed his determination by diving into second by the next corner. By the start of lap two Sykes was already attacking the NW200 rider Rutter.
He made an inside move at the Real Radio hairpin, but due to his speed Sykes ran a bit wide allowing Rutter to sneak back underneath pushing them both out wide and Sykes on to the paint, which saw him temporarily lose grip.
At the front, it calmed down for a few laps until lap seven saw Sykes and Rutter exchange positions again until Sykes made his final move a couple of laps later at Seat Curves [used to be Duffus Dip - Ed] after the start/finish straight, which he kept to the chequered flag.
Stiff Airwaves Ducati rider Byrne, who suffered a back injury during the Craig Jones tribute lap prior to the race finished second overall, followed by Hydrex Animal Honda rider James Ellison who stood on the podium in third place who now is consistently running at the front each race weekend.
Michael Laverty of Relentless Suzuki finished sixth after a bad start, just ahead of Karl Harris of Rob Mac Racing, who returns from his wild card ride in World Supersport last week. Lloyds Jentin Racing's injured Simon Andrews had a heroic ride to take 8th place.
Gary Mason of Quay Honda took the Daily Star Cup win, who is aiming to gain 50 points on the championship John Laverty who is not competing this weekend due to a crash on Friday. After battling for second place, Martin Jessopp of Riders Racing beat third place man Chris Burns on his MV Agusta.
The race was not without incident or breathtaking moments, the leaders started to mix in with back markers as early as mid way through the race due to the short lap distance. Additional crashes included Kenny Gilbertson on the Astro Racing Kawasaki, following a tangle both MSS Kawasaki Billy McConnell and Rizla Suzuki Atsushi Watanabe were forced out at the hairpin and finally Co-Ordit Yamaha racing Dean Ellison to did not cross the finish line.
Stuart Easton of MSS Kawasaki after participating in practice sessions withdrew from race day due to his recovering broken arm that he sustained earlier in the season hopefully he will return to track at Cadwell in two weeks.
