MALLORY BSB: MARTIN TAKES THE WIN FOR GEARLINK

Gearlink Kawasaki’s Chris Martin beat his teammate to the win by just over seven seconds at the seventh round of the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship at Mallory this weekend.
Second Gearlink rider Ben Wilson took second after battling hard at the start of the race with Martin.  Ian Hutchinson of Padgetts Motorcycles took third after working is way up through the grid.
In the wet declared race in which the track continued to dry out provided some strong entertainment from start to finish seeing eight riders overall not finish the race.  It was the two green Kawasaki’s that led into the first corner and from that point they dominated the front two spots.
In the awkward conditions and varied tyre choices the race contained numerous crashes and mistakes that saw riders run off track.  One rider that took a gamble on tyres was Billy McConnell of MAP Raceways Yamaha who went with an intermediate front and slick rear as he believed the track would dry.
This choice obviously hindered him at the beginning but allowed to him to carry out good damage limitation to just finish off the podium in fifth, disappointing following his dazzling pole position time, but successful towards the championship as he finished ahead of who he needed.
Current championship leader Steve Plater of H M Plant Honda fell down the order to finish seventh overall.  It was a successful results for Brendan Roberts who replaces the injured Dan Linfoot for the North West 200 Coca Cola Zero team by taking fifth ahead of regular championship riders.
Sam Lowes of Astro Racing Honda looked to cope easy with the pace of running at the front battling in third, but due to an incorrect tyre choice he slipped down the order to finish ninth, but still inside the top ten.  Continuing his strong pace that he has all weekend and again taking a cup win.
Dean Hipwell of Atherton Godfrey Solicitors took second sitting 12th overall and Chris Northover of Astro Racing Kawasaki who took the final cup podium and was back in the points.
