Legends of Grand Prix Motorcycle Racing from years gone by will make a welcome visit to Brands Hatch for the upcoming sixth round of the 2023 British Superbike Championship [BSB].
A special demonstration featuring several well-known racing champions from some of motorcycle racing’s most notable eras will take place amid the usual hijinks and action of the BSB, the British Supersport and National Superstock Championships among others.
They will be riding a series of iconic Grand Prix machines to get the Kent circuit reverberating to the classic two-stroke soundtrack.
MotoGP legend Randy Mamola will be reunited with the Ingersoll Heron Suzuki he steered to his first-ever 500GP victory in the 1980 Belgian Grand Prix at Zolder. It was a success that made him the youngest Grand Prix premier class winner at the time, Mamola going on to win again at the British Grand Prix en route to the runners-up spot.
There will also be a welcome return to Brands Hatch for fellow American John Hopkins, who take to the controls of another favourite from Mamola’s history, the Cagiva 1988 C588 Factory Bike.
It will mark Hopkins’ first outing at Brands Hatch during a BSB race weekend since the final round of the 2017 BSB season in what turned out to be his last competitive outing.
The American duo will also be joined on track by three-time BSB champion Niall Mackenzie, who will throw a leg over the 1995 ROC Yamaha.
The demonstrations will take place on Saturday at 12:10 – 12:25 and on Sunday from 12:55 – 13:10 ahead of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship eBay Qualifying and race respectively.
