Milwaukee Yamaha’s Josh Brookes has ruled himself out of this weekend’s King of Brands double points dash for cash at the Kent circuit’s MCE British Superbike round.
The Bringelly rider believes there is too much at stake to start getting into heroics and wants to start winning races from the front of the grid before ‘getting cocky’ and starting at the back.
“I’m not going to take part, there is too much at stake. I need to start winning races from the front row, never mind getting cocky and trying to win them from the back row of the grid. It’s ridiculous,” said Brookes, speaking to bikesportnews.com.
“Also, in my contract it says that I have to take every opportunity to win the championship. I’m not going to sacrifice a potential result to go for glory. I would be in breach if I tried it. I’d just like to win a race. I’m not bloody Valentino.”
Brookes will take a third incarnation of his race fuel tank to Brands, one he has worked on himself at the team’s Guisborough headquarters, to combat the wheelie problem he experienced at Knockhill.
“Instead of waiting for an answer, we just went ahead and modified one ourselves, making changes to it while I am there. We basically chopped the top off the tank then arrowed it down so I can get closer to the bars and get some more of my weight over the front of the bike.”
