OULTON BSB: CAMIER WINS RED-FLAGGED RACE ONE

Airwaves Yamaha's Leon Camier has taken victory in the first British Superbike race at Oulton Park which was run in two parts after John Laverty crashed out at Hill Top, bringing out the red flags.

The young Irishman was knocked unconscious in the accident and taken to the medical centre but news from race control says that the Buildbase Kawasaki man is now ok.

When the lights went out for part one, Hydrex Honda's Stuart Easton got into Old Hall in the lead with team-mate Karl Harris second and Camier in third with HM Plant Honda's Glen Richards fourth. The race was stopped for Laverty's crash on lap two just after Harris had gone past Easton.

Riders took their qualifying positions for the re-start and it was again Easton who got the holeshot with Harris, Richards and Camier in tow. Camier had been removed from the grid before the warm-up lap for apparently leaking fluid but was allowed to take his slot after it was found to be overheating.

The Kent man then set about climbing up the order, diving up the inside of Richards at Shell and pushing him wide enough to allow Simon Andrews to follow through and into fourth place.

Harris went past Easton at the start of lap two of 18 while Andrews dived up the inside of Camier's Yamaha R1 on the exit of Cascades but Camier was back past on the brakes going into Shell.

A lap later, as Harris pulled out a near-second lead, Sylvain Guintoli put his Worx Suzuki underneath Andrews at Shell setting off in pursuit of Easton, trying once at Hizzy's and then making the move into Lodge.

Luckless Andrews then tipped off, catching his footpeg on a kerb which levered his front tyre off the ground. The already-injured Kawasaki man looked ok as he got up but is still nursing a shoulder injury, aggravated yesterday by a near highside.

Camier finally caught and passed Harris through Cascades and immediately put a gap on the Sheffield man while Guintoli caught the two Hydrex Honda bikes. The Frenchman had a big slide coming out of Old Hall on nine, which then put him back behind Easton and allowed Harris to get away.

Camier managed to pull out a 1.7s lead by the end of lap 12 but then lost some pace due to big gusts of wind which allowed Harris to close the gap back to less than a second but it was not enough.

Guintoli got past Easton at Loge with three laps to go, but the Hawick rider was back past going over Deer Leap. With five laps to the Suzuki man put his final pass on Easton and took the final podium spot. James Ellison got past Richards on the last lap to take fifth.

Gary Mason took the Superbike Cup win with a ninth, battling with HM Plant Honda's Josh Brookes.
