Oulton BSB: Change ‘positive’ for Brookes

Tyco Suzuki’s Josh Brookes is hoping that all the changes his team have done to his bike will pay off when he takes to the Oulton Park track in the first MCE British Superbike race later today. The Australian will start from the front row, after making some successful alterations to his bike.

Brookes still needs to find that extra pace to compete with Samsung Honda’s Alex Lowes and Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne, but is remaining positive.

“You never give up the pursuit of trying to go quicker; I am just trying to outpace the other teams, bikes and riders so you end up with a similar pattern all the time, it is just the result at the end that needs changing,” said Brookes speaking to bikesportnews.com at the circuit.

“Each team has got their own objectives, to try and improve their bikes in their own way. It does become frustrating but also exciting because the settings we tried last year that didn’t work now become more of a potential for working, as we have a new suspension.

“In qualifying we used a completely new set up which last year would have definitely not worked, but it did in that session. It kind of means you throw away all your old knowledge and start a fresh, but it means a lot of things we try and tested before that did not work now become a potential for improving. It is a catch 22 for us at the moment, but we will keep our heads down and keep working to try and make it better.”
