SMT Honda's Karl Harris has upped the pace in this afternoon's second British Superbike free practice session as newly-crowned champion Leon Camier went down at Brittens Chicane after seven laps but walked away.
Camier, who only has one fully-prepared race bike, sat out the rest of the session and had to watch as he slipped down the order to 14th place while Harris battled it out with Hydrex Honda's Tommy Hill for top spot. Team boss Colin Wright has confirmed the Kent man is OK.
Hill slid into the lead with seven minutes of the session remaining, posting a 1'36.384 which was two tenths faster than Harris's time from the this morning, but the Yorkshireman was having none of it, lapping in 1'36.277 just a few seconds later.
The other Hydrex Honda of Stuart Easton was also into the 1'36s, with a 1'36.777 while Relentless Suzuki's Ian Lowry put in a flier to only be a tenth of a second off Easton's time which quick enough to join the top three in the 100+mph lap club.
MSS Colchester Kawasaki's Simon Andrews is at the head of a theoretical second row after spending a lot of time in the bottom half. The Evesham man put in a 1'37.214 with eight minutes left which was enough to demote Chris Walker to sixth.
Airwaves Yamaha's James Ellison is in seventh, 1.1s off the pace while the HM Plant Hondas of Glen Richards and Josh Brookes are locked together in eighth and ninth, with Julien Da Costa rounding out the top ten. Superbike Cup Champion Gary Mason also crashed at Knickerbrook, but was unhurt.
