OULTON BSB FINAL: MOSSEY TAKES FIFTH WIN OF SEASON

Sabre Sport’s Luke Mossey took his fifth win of the season in mixed conditions at Oulton Park in the final round of the Metzeler National Superstock 600 Championship this weekend and managed to clinch second in the standings after a crash-strewn race.
The result has put him level in points with Luke Jones of MAP Raceways Junior Team, but due to Mossey’s total number of wins this puts him ahead in the championship. Mossey led into the first corner from his front-row start but a couple of corners later it was Patrick McDougall Beowulf Racing who moved in front as Mossey fell down the order.
All riders tentatively went around the wet but drying track, but it was McDougall that pulled away to build a gap of just under 4.3s by lap five before the safety car came out following a crash.
Prior to the interruption McDougall was followed by Jones, Bruce Winfield of Motorpoint Yamaha, Jesse Trayler of MSS Kawasaki and Mossey.  It was Manxman Dan Kneen who had worked his way up through the grid after losing out on his front row start.  He moved into second from fifth by taking two riders on the entry into Old Hall.
The safety car went back in on lap eight which was bad news for McDougall who lost all his hard work, but good for Kneen who now hung on his back wheel.  Also working their way to the front was Mossey who immediately made advantage of the restart to slip into fourth.
All the top five riders now were within a second of one another and although Kneen tried to take the lead McDougall kept holding on to it as Mossey then came through for second.
Kneen temporarily took it back on lap ten and fought hard but he couldn’t win the battle with Mossey as he regained second before hitting the front.  As Mossey took the lead Kneen and Leon Hunt of New Holland Triumph also took advantage of the opportunity pushing McDougall down to fourth and off the podium.
It was disappointing for Jones who finished tenth from the front row causes him to slip to third in the championship and pole position man Ashley Midwood of Midwood/Hooper Racing returning to the series who crashed out of the race.
