Oulton BSB: 'I would like to race next year' - Walker

Be Wiser Kawasaki's Chris Walker has no intention of hanging up his leathers just yet, and has ambitions to race in the MCE British Superbike Championship next year.

It was a special weekend for the veteran racer as he started his 300th race in the series at Oulton Park. The Cheshire track holds some special memories for him, as it was where he won his first race, and his last.

The housewives favourite is still enjoying his racing and wants to be back on the grid in 2016. But the Kawasaki man has described this season as 'tough' but he hasn't given up on winning some solid points, and is already aiming for top ten finishes at the next round at Assen.

"It was my 300th BSB start and it was pretty incredible and I didn't suppose that back in 1996 that I would be doing 300 of these things. It was a special weekend especially here at Oulton Park as this is where I had my first race win and my last," said Walker, speaking to bikesportnews.com at the track.

"I genuinely would like to race next year, much beyond that I haven't thought about it to be honest depends whether I keep my ride next year or get one worth having as that will be the deciding factor. I don't want to be on the grid just to make up the numbers, as I still want to be on something competitive.

"It is tougher than ever this year and I have just rode the wheels off the thing and pretty much just scraped in the points and  it is tougher, I don't know whether that because I am the oldest on the grid and done 300 races or whether things have gone up a notch, but I am still enjoying my racing."

It was a good weekend for his Be Wiser team, as his much younger garage-buddy Danny Buchan came away with two podiums, and Walker was able to finish with a brace of points too.

Chris Walker said: "Be Wiser have really done good and Danny has had some podiums, and my best result has been sixth, and we need to keep it on a roll and fingers crossed I have done enough to keep a ride.

"I really hope to be back [for 2016] and without the support I have had from my fans I probably wouldn't have made the start line over the last couple of years, and a big thanks to my fans too.

"It has taken me longer to get my form back after my crash at Knockhill but I am hoping for top tens in the next round, and the bike has been going good. There is no secret that there is a new ZX-10 on the horizon and if I did get to race next year it would be on another version of the ZX-10. It would be the fifth one that I have raced and I would like to be part of the development of that too, as it is a great bike for this championship."
