Relentless Suzuki rider Ian Lowry is truly thrilled about his move up to British Superbikes category for the 2009 season and at Oulton Park this Bank Holiday weekend he has finished in the top ten in both of Saturday's practice sessions.
The Moira based rider finished third in the British Supersport Championship last season riding for his current Irish based team and now will be moving forward into what he calls his learning year for Superbikes.
Talking about moving up a leve,l Lowry said: “I am feeling really good, I have always been working for this, even when I was a kid watching on TV I knew that’s where I wanted to be, it's fantastic. There is a big difference in set up from last year, there is a lot more to do and learn with the bike, its heavier and faster so it’s a case of getting used to it, but it suits my riding style.
“This year is a learning year, each round we go to we have nothing to compare to, we are starting from scratch. In the first round I had a big crash, I finished 13th in race one and had technical failure in the second were I finished 19th, but overall it was not too bad.”
Following his promising practice sessions Lowry said: “We are progressing steadily, I just need to do laps and get used to a Superbike. The team is good and we have a direction of where we need to go. We go to a lot of good tracks but Oulton Park is one of my favourites and I am aiming for a top ten, that is where we need to be.”
