The second round of the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 Championship took place at Oulton Park this Bank Holiday weekend providing an interesting start to the afternoon races.
It was team mates Steve Brogan and John McGuinness of Padgetts motorcycles that lead the race followed by Richard Cooper of Team Co-ordit following in third with SMT/Rocket Centre Adam Jenkinson close on his tale.
Pole position rider Alastair Seeley of Relentless Suzuki by TAS/Seeley Racing fell down the order to a seven second disadvantage before storming back to take the race.
The leaders Brogan and McGuinness stormed away leaving the remainder of the grid behind and Cooper to battle for third with Jenkinson. McGuinness tried to get ahead of his team mate and as they started lap three they were side by side, but Brogan managed to hold his position.
On lap four both Cooper and Jenkinson crashed out at Shell Hairpin, moving Seeley up to third and Scott Smart of Moto Rapido Ducati who started from the first row in second place to fourth.
It was from this point on that Seeley began his attack to work his way through the grid, taking huge chunks out of the seven second gap to Brogan who then led the race. Even though Brogan was pulling away from McGuinness, Seeley was chasing him.
On lap 11 Seeley had reached McGuinness, some overtakes were hindered as they hit back markers, but he eventually moved to second on lap 12. The next lap saw Seeley trying to overtake Brogan, but again back markers mid corner forced him to settle, but not for long as he took the lead on lap 14 to take the win by 1.3 seconds.
Both Padgetts Motorcylces kept the remaining podium positions as they crossed the line in second and third, Scott Smart just missed out on a trophy but still took a strong fourth with Luke Quigley rounding off the top five.
Further down the order there was a three way battle between Connor Cummins of Team Blackhorse Yamaha, Cameron Donald of Relentless Suzuki by TAS and Marshall O’Neill. Cummins gave Donald an opportunity to get ahead after an out of the seat moment forcing him to roll off the throttle to re-gain grip.
Donald continued to take seventh overall, Neill got ahead of Cummins for ninth and Cummins rounded off the top ten.
The race included two retirements from Thomas Clegg, and an additional six crashes including Jimmy Storrar, Gary Johnson, James Hillier, Alex Gaul, Sam Warren and Mark Van Daalen who hit the kerb at Shell Hairpin flinging him over the handlebars and slamming into the ground, fortunately he was able to walk away.
