RS Racing’s Andy Reid has had a tough few years in the motorcycling world, and is now currently competing in the Monster Energy British Motostar championship. The nineteen-year-old is riding on the injured Cat Green’s bike and has already had some strong results in the class, but sponsorship is now proving to be an issue.
The Northern Irish teenager is actively looking for more funds, as he is struggling to find the money to complete in the final rounds. The rider has notched up some much needed points in the championship, and now wants to get more track time to show potential teams what he is capable of, and how strong he can be on a bike.
“It is harder when you are not racing all of the time, especially coming from Northern Ireland as the aspect of getting over here is quite hard, and every time I go back home I am trying to look for funds, as I need money for flights. I don’t find an issue about being taken seriously as I have a good head on my shoulders,” said Reid.
“I have had to do the racing thing on my own, and I haven’t had someone to guide me places but it has definitely made me more mature as a person. I am really enjoying myself now, but I just need to find some funding. VR Trans, Tony Morris and Jeff Hankin, Cat Green’s partner have all helped me. I am riding Cat’s bike as she is injured and out for the season. She comes to some of the rounds and helps me too, and it is great to have her support.
“Every time I go home it is a struggle because I cant commit to do a another race, and whatever money I have got left over I am trying to scrounge some more for flights and I am having to pay an entry, and it is a nightmare because I am counting on prize money to get me here.
“I don’t think it would be right for me to be in the Motostar class next year, because of my size and age. It is a good starting point, and to get my confidence back. Next year I would be possibly looking at Supersport. But if I had the funding I would love to ride in Moto3, as that is my goal.”
