Veteran racer, Michael Rutter is confident that he will be racing in the TT, the North West 200 and will be gracing the MCE British Superbike paddock once again for next season, with hopes that a contract will be completed very soon. But retirement is definitely not an option.
Rutter had a really busy year, and found racing in the roads, track and endurance events a bit too much. This season the rider did struggle with his Bathams Honda team in BSB, but vows to be back with Bathams in some capacity, but has hinted that he may give up endurance racing for 2014. But the 41-year-old has no plans to hang up his leathers anytime soon.
“This year with Bathams Honda we did struggle a bit and I broke my leg at the beginning of the season with the Honda legends and that put us behind and we struggled getting the speed out of the Honda. We did 24 hour racing and we had some good races there and we had a win at the TT and finished the season second at Macau,” said Rutter, speaking to bikesportnews.com.
“I was racing every other weekend and it was too much really and I took too much on. My season is nearly all sorted out and hopefully I will be back at the TT and the North West and back in the British Championship if everything goes to plan, but it is down to sponsors as it always is, but we are just sorting the last bits out, and it will be Bathams something, so hopefully we can announce it soon.
“The hard bit is adapting my style from the roads to the track, so that is what I struggle more with now. The world endurance was so much testing and it was 24 hours and it takes it out of you and doing that and riding on different manufacture of tyres was hard. But it is nice next year as we will stick to one make of bike and one make of tyres, and I am not retiring anytime soon.”
