Team Blackhorse Yamaha’s Connor Cummins success in road racing hasn’t continued over to the short circuits as he would have liked in the Metzeler National Superstock 1000cc championship due to struggling with the Yamaha.
Cummins struggles continued this weekend, following a crash he qualified lower than hoped in 18th, but worked his way up to 13th. So far this season Cummins has scored points at every round apart from one putting him 10th in the overall standings with eighth and ninth still within reach at the next and final round.
Rewiewing his year Cummins said: “I’ve been on the podium at all the Internationals this year, three of the four main ones anywhere its been good on the roads, the Macadoo bikes have been tremendous all year a big thanks to them”
“On the short circuits it’s been good but difficult we are just struggling with the new bike and lack of power. It’s really difficult to push harder, I am riding as hard as I can in the corners but don’t have the straight line speed that the other bikes have which is a shame really.”
Ian Lougher, the team owner said: “In Connor’s road racing he’s done fantastic, but on the short circuits we’ve just struggled a bit with the Yamaha’s but I think he’s done tremendous and is riding as well as anybody out there. We just need a little bit more power basically from the engine but you’re not allowed to do anything to the engines as they are stock. He’s had a good few weekends though, but it’s hard.”
Cummins plans to continue both with his road racing and short circuits next year as his career is far from over, he said: “I want to get to the top level, ultimately I want to be in World Superbikes as well as win the TT, that is really quite important me. I would love to do that, but it’s just all down to finance.”
“World Superbikes is absolutely fantastic, I think we should go back and do better again. We gave ourselves a bit of a disappointment at Donington this year as we messed up qualifying a bit but I came through to 18th from the back so position wise it wasn’t what we wanted but it was satisfying.”
