Gearlink Kawasaki's Jamie Hamilton clinched the 2009 Metzeler Superstock 600cc Championship title after an unexpected turn of events at Silverstone this weekend saw race winner Luke Mossey chucked out for running illegal parts.
Hamilton, who has had a difficult weekend, crashed in the race while Mossey took the win meaning the title fight would go on to the season finale in two weeks at Oulton Park. However, following the exclusion of Mossey due to his bike running illegal cam sprockets, the title went to Hamilton.
“I have mixed emotions to say the least, I am happy as you need to be in it to win. I’ve been consistent at all the other races and I came here this weekend trying to do my best. I wanted to be on the podium and win the race, I was annoyed I crashed but everyone makes mistakes and I am only human, " said Hamilton.
“I was looking forward to going to Oulton to correct where I went wrong but I am now going to Oulton with no pressure on me at all. I feel sorry for Luke, I know he got disqualified but he is really an awesome rider and he has been riding absolutely unbelievably ever since Thruxton. He doesn’t deserve to be put out of a race because you come here and he is the man to be beat every weekend.”
At the start of the year, Hamilton was watching on TV before joining the grid for the second round on an under powered bike but son after he was rescued by Gearlink Kawasaki and he has been at the top ever since. He has stood on the podium seven times and now taken the championship title with one round left to go.
Hamilton said: “I would like to thank Harry and Karl Corbett especially Harry as he’s stuck with me through the years he’s my biggest critic, he’ll sort me out when I am doing badly. That what’s I deserve as you’re here to win and you need someone there to push you on that bit extra."
Due to winning the championship Hamilton is not able to take part in the Superstock 600 next year and depending on funding along with options he would like to return to the British Supersport grid in 2010.
