Gearlink Kawasaki’s Luke Hedger clinched a tight Pirelli National Superstock 600 win from CF Motorsports Callan Cooper at Silverstone. The two riders were locked in a battle from the opening lap and the lead changed numerous times over the course of the seven lap race.
The outing was postponed as the first race was red flagged after a multiple bike incident. Team AHR’s Jordan Simpkin crashed at Stowe and collected Chris Walker Race School rider Mason Law in the process and both lad’s hit the gravel, with AC Racing’s Aaron Clarke and Black Country UTC Racing’s Kurt Wigley quickly following suit and falling at Vale. Law was later taken to the medical centre, and there was a long delay as the track had to be cleared after the Chris Walker machine went up in flames.
Title contender Hedger experienced an engine problem on the opening lap at Club but his team were able to fix his bike in time for the re-start and eventual race win. But all the action occurred on the final lap of the race, when both Hedger and Cooper were side by side on the Northamptonshire track. Cooper was leading the on the penultimate lap after making a move at Stowe, but a lap later Hedger took advantage of a mistake made by Cooper as he went wide at Abbey and the Kawasaki lad was able to storm ahead to take the win.
BMC Racing’s Ben Godfrey had a solid race and was able to keep up with the pace of the leading duo, and crossed the finishing line in third. But there was humongous battle for fourth, which was between five rider’s; MWR Kawasaki’s Harry Hartley, Michael Robertson Racing’s er, Michael Robertson, Moto-breaker’s James Lodge, Team E-Lites Tim Hastings and championship contender Simpkin.
The fight for fourth place went down to the wire and in the end it was Robertson who grabbed the spoils, from Hartley with Simpkin finishing the race in ninth, and Haribo Starmix rider Joe Collier completing the top ten. Simpkin now slips down to second in the standings, with Hedger moving to the top of the table with an eight point advantage.
