Silverstone BSB: Hopkins scores first podium of the year

Moto Rapido Ducati’s John Hopkins clinched his first podium finish of the MCE British Superbike season with a third place on the rostrum at Silverstone.

The American rider has been on the pace all weekend and the track certainly suits the Panigale man. Hopkins admitted choosing tyres was a gamble in the first race this afternoon, with some parts of the track being dry and other sections that were really wet.

In the end Hopkins decided to run with the full wets and now wants to remain on the rostrum for the rest of the season. The former MotoGP star has not accumulated enough points to make it into the Showdown, but still wants to finish the year off on a high.

“We made the right decision being on rain tyres, but it could have been anybody guess. All season long we had the pace and had the pace all throughout the weekend,” said Hopkins at the track.

“Unfortunately we are quite far behind in the points but we want to finish up the season as strong as we can and try and remain on the podium, and that’s the goal. The Moto Rapido team have been working so hard all year and it is nice to reward them with a result.

“It was anyone’s gamble to see if wets would work best or inters or slicks but on the beginning on the out-lap it was too wet in the back section to run inters or slicks and that was my point of view, and we made the right decision.”
