SILVERSTONE BSB: MOSSEY KEEPS TITLE CHASE ALIVE

UPDATE: Mossey has been disqualified for using illegal cam sprockets. Click here
Sabre Sport’s Luke Mossey kept the battle for Metzeler National Superstock 600cc going after taking the win at Silverstone this weekend while Jamie Hamilton of MSS Kawasaki crashed out at meaning the battle will continue onto the season finale in two weeks.

It was Luke Jones of MAP Raceways Yamaha who lead into the first corner ahead of Patrick McDougall of Beowulf Racing and Mossey who was then in third. Current championship leader Jamie Hamilton was down in sixth who has been struggling this weekend. The first lap wasn’t without incident with Mike McLean of MAP Raceways and Jonathan Dickson of Bell Yamaha Racing crashing out.
Mossey who needed to win the race was initially in a positive third but following an error he lost three places on the entry to one corner putting him down into sixth and behind Hamilton.  Even though Hamilton has been struggling this weekend and was running in sixth he knew at that point Hamilton didn’t need to get involved with any battles as Mossey was not leading the race and he just needed to bring it home.
It wasn’t long until it was all change and Mossey was more determined than ever, he moved ahead of Hamilton for fifth to start his attack.  Coates confidently overtook Kneen for third leaving him to battle with Mossey behind.  Mid corner Kneen had a near highside directly in front of Mossey but fortunately Kneen saved it to carry on saving his position. Kneen held off Mossey as long as he could and they drew back up to Coates.
Mean while the front two runners were able to pull away and have a battle of their own.  On lap seven McDougall who was having his strongest ride for a few rounds took the lead ahead of Jones which he kept for a couple of laps until he went to seventh place, thought due to an error.
The battle then was on between Kneen and Mossey for the final step of the podium as they swapped positions several times each lap and even twice in the same corner.  It was on lap 11 Mossey found what he needed, moved to second to hunt down Jones before taking the lead on lap 12.
Hamilton started to push hard and moved up to fourth before crashing out on the same lap giving a whole 25 points away to his main rival bringing the gap down to 22 points.
Coates had a breathtaking moment as he went onto the grass, kicked up a huge amount of dust nearly highsiding in front of Kneen who had also gone to the grass behind him although less dramatically, but it was Kneen that won the fight for the last step of the podium.
