Shane Byrne’s Ducati-employed crew chief Giovanni Crupi has been using some new software in the Silverstone BSB paddock this weekend that helps with and predicts effects of changes in setup on the Panigale.
Crupi is the only man in the paddock allowed access to it as he is the sole Ducati staff member but has been working across Byrne, Glenn Irwin and Moto Rapido rider John Hopkins.
“When you change something in theory it just shows you what you are going to do actually on the bike. If you change the spring it will tell you how many millimetres you will gain in the stroke or lose on another stroke. It will tell you which position the bike will be when you make a move,” Crupi told bikesportnews.com ay Silverstone.
“Also changing the gearing you will have different swing-arm length so you will have the possibility to compensate the spring, or preload and it is easy to use. It is a good tool and a very important tool. I have the software installed on my computer but it is for the team and for Glenn and John.
“There are many tools that people can buy after market and software and I would recommend it for everyone because it is a learning tool. It is not just a tool to use on track but it allows you to learn many things. We have just started from the setup from the races before and try to adapt. It is quite difficult in these conditions because we don’t have much dry track time and basically we are not changing just using one tyre and that’s it.”
