Silverstone BSB: Race weekend stats, facts and pub ammo

Silverstone first hosted a BSB round in 1998 with the race wins going to James Haydon and Troy Bayliss. It has now hosted a total of 38 BSB races.

In that time there have been 19 different race winners and 32 different riders stand on the podium.

Shane Byrne has now amassed exactly 5000 points in the British Superbike Championship since making his debut in 1999.

Ryuichi Kiyonari has recorded the most wins at Silverstone with six followed by Troy Bayliss, Byrne, Michael Rutter, Josh Brookes and Alex Lowes (all 3) and John Reynolds, Steve Hislop, Leon Camier and James Ellison (all 2).

Byrne has taken the most podiums (13) followed by Kiyonari (10), Reynolds and Brookes (both 9), Rutter (6) and Hislop, Chris Walker, Gregorio Lavilla and Michael Laverty (all 5).

Lee Jackson took his first career BSB podium last time out at Cadwell Park to become the 71st rider to stand on a British Superbike podium.

With a best finish of fifth in race two, Silverstone was one of only three circuits where Leon Haslam failed to stand on the podium at least once in 2016.

Silverstone hosted the opening round in 2016 with Byrne scoring the most points (40), followed by Laverty (35), Christian Iddon (32), Peter Hickman and (25) and Jason O’Halloran (23).

The current lap record is held by Ellison, with a time of 2’05.267s (105.39mph) set in the second race of 2015.

Last year’s pole position was claimed by Haslam (Kawasaki) with a lap of 2’05.501s.

The ideal lap from 2016 though was 2’04.723s with the fastest sector times recorded by Haslam in sectors one (24.465s), two (13.362s) and four (28.511s), John Hopkins in sector three (26.846s) and O’Halloran in sector five (31.539s).

The victories in 2016 were taken by BMW (Laverty) and Kawasaki (Hickman).

Laverty has taken podiums at Silverstone on Suzuki, Honda and BMW machinery.

Yamaha’s last wins at Silverstone came in 2015 when Brookes did the double whilst Honda last took victory at the Northamptonshire venue in 2013 when Lowes won the opening race.

Suzuki last won in 2011 when both Hopkins and Brookes were victorious with Ducati’s last win coming in 2010 with Rutter.

As well as Brookes in 2015, other double race winners have been Bayliss (1999), Kiyonari (2006 and 2007) and Alex Lowes (2012).
