Silverstone BSB: Ryde ‘disappointed but had a real good go’

Kyle Ryde’s affinity with the Silverstone National circuit continued at the weekend, this time on Yamaha machinery, with the Rich Energy OMG Racing rider adding two more Bennetts British Superbike Championship podiums to his haul.

That made it five in total at the venue and the Nottinghamshire rider was on the pace all weekend. Like teammate Bradley Ray, he looked the rider most likely to get the better of Glenn Irwin and whilst two second place finishes were ultimately his best results, the 24-year old fell short of a third career BSB victory by just 0.079s in Sunday’s first race.

“I was a bit disappointed after Saturday’s race but I took it to Glenn a bit more on Sunday and had a real good go,” he said. “He had a little more than us in some places and I had a little bit more in others so we evened out, but looking back at Sunday’s first race, there was a bigger gap than I thought. Second was still good and the pleasing aspect was that I was able to take the fight to Glenn a bit more.”

Despite slipping back to tenth in the third and final race, Ryde finished the weekend in second overall on 46 points and was more than happy with his weekend’s work.

“I’m obviously disappointed with race three but I did the best I could and, overall, if someone had offered me these results before the weekend, I’d have taken it,” he added. “You always want to come away from the first meeting of the season with some good points.”

“The team have worked mega through pre-season testing and this weekend to make the Yamaha R1 a joy to ride. There’s still more to come from me yet.”
