SILVERSTONE BSB: WESTMORELAND RUNS AWAY WITH WIN

A1 Moto Service Triumph’s James Westmoreland ran away with the win in the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport race this afternoon at Silverstone ,crossing the line an astonishing nine seconds ahead of the title contenders Steve Plater of HM Plant Honda and Billy McConnell of MAP Raceways.
It was Lee Johnston of MAP Raceways Yamaha who took the lead into the first corner but unfortunately due to a jump start he was forced to do a ride through and after rejoining in 15th he finished 13th overall.
Westmoreland and McConnell moved ahead of Johnston who started to fall down the order before his ride through put him totally out of the picture.  Plater had worked his way up from fifth to third place with McConnell in his sights by lap three.
Meanwhile it was Westmoreland who gradually pulled away at the front never to be seen again.  McConnell made a mistake on lap eight by running wide at Abbey which gave Plater an opportunity to move ahead.  McConnell fought back immediately and side by side they almost touched nearly riding on the grass, but McConnell regained his second place.
Plater got ahead on lap 16 and the fight was on more than ever, but no matter what McConnell did he couldn’t stay ahead of Plater.  On the final lap at the last corner Luffield McConnell took a last dive to get ahead but due to there not being enough room Plater was forced onto the grass and crossed the line in third.
However this incident was reviewed by the race director and Plater was later awarded second place and McConnell was demoted to third meaning that Plater pulled away from McConnell by another four points in the championship standings.
Bruce Wilson of Gearlink Kawasaki again continued his strong pace until lap seven when Paul Young TAG Triumph made an inside move on Wilson at the Abbey corner to get ahead but unluckily he low sided taking Wilson out with him.  Young’s race was over, but Wilson rejoined before later having to pull into the pits.
This moved Joe Dickinson of PTR Racing up a place who took sixth overall having his strongest weekend of the season so far.  It was bad news for Robbie Brown of AGB Transport/Packet Media who had to pull in on the warm up lap due to a mechanical problem.  This seriously damaged his attack on the cup championship title.
The win in the cup series was taken by Dean Hipwell of Atherton Godfrey Solicitors in 14th place moving him up to second in the overall standings ahead of Brown.  The second trophy went Peter Ward of TAG Triumph who finished 16th and Craig McClelland of Reactive Suspension/Premier Despatch had his best weekend of the season taking his first podium and 17th overall.
