Gearlink Kawasaki’s Ben Wilson took his first Motorpoint British Supersport of the year this afternoon at Silverstone, in a race that saw Jack Kennedy claw back some valuable points on Glen Richards.
Wilson, last year’s runner-up in the middleweight class, took the holeshot but it wasn’t long before Kennedy came rushing past to take the lead. Behind them, Richards was obviously struggling as he couldn’t keep with the pace of the front runners.
It was on lap seven when Wilson retook the lead and pulled away from the chasing pack. Despite pressure from TAG Triumph’s Richard Cooper, Wilson took the victory he has sought after all year long. Kennedy held third place on to the last lap but was pushed wide by an in-form Christian Iddon and had to settle for fourth. Graeme Gowland took fifth on his return to the series.
Smiths Triumph’s Glen Richards took a disappointing sixth but still holds a 12.5 point advantage over the Dubliner with just two races remaining at Brands Hatch; which means Richards can finish in second behind Kennedy in both races in two weeks’ time and still take the Supersport crown.
Luke Jones took the cup victory in seventh after Glenn Irwin crashed out in spectacular style. Fellow Mar-Train rider Taylor Mackenzie took eighth ahead of Australians Brodie Waters and a below par Billy McConnell.
