MSS Colchester Kawasaki's Simon Andrews has set the fastest lap during the first British Superbike first free practice session at Snetterton this morning and it's the first time the Evesham man has headed any practice session.
Andrews, who is still muddling through the complicated traction control system on his ZX-10R, was a quarter of a second faster than Hydrex Honda's Karl Harris and was the only man to get under the 1'05s barrier, lapping at 1'05.939.
Harris's team-mate Stuart Easton was third quickest on a 1'06.342 while Worx Suzuki stand-in rider Michael Rutter rounds out a theoretical front row in fourth, almost half a second off the pace.
Airwaves Yamaha's Leon Camier heads the second row, which he will not be happy with, with the HM Plant Honda pairing of Glen Richards and Josh Brookes six-tenths slower than Andrews, and Motorpoint Yamaha's Chris Walker
rounding out row.
As the laptimes tumbled towards the middle of the 1'06s bracket, Easton headed the timesheets with a 1'06.444 with Camier a tenth slower and Michael Rutter on 1'06.739.
Easton then dropped the bar again with 20 minutes of the session remaining and stayed there until Andrews bettered his time with 15 minutes left, lapping at 1'06.242.
Rutter briefly sat in second place until Harris ran Andrews' time close, going three one-thousandths of a second slower but then Andrews sealed the session with his 1'05.939.
