WD40 Racing's Joe Francis claimed a dramatic Monster Energy Motostar victory, getting the better of his Moto3 rivals in a four-way fight for the win.
South African Jordan Weaving took the holeshot from pole position but he didn't hold on to the lead for long, with Redline KTM's Tarran Mackenzie slipping underneath him at Montreal. Joe Irving then joined the battle for the lead, setting the fastest ever Moto3 lap whilst chasing down the leading trio.
Mackenzie then ran wide at Montreal hairpin allowing Weaving, Francis and Irving to slip through. WD40 rider, Francis, then took the initiative, stealing the lead away from Red Bull Rookie Weaving, who appeared to be struggling for top end speed down the straights. However, Weaving was able to fight through the problems to take the lead with two laps remaining.
Weaving pulled out half a second as the four came through to start the last lap but the race victory wasn't to be for the young South African, as he flicked through Oggies for the final time, the front end of his KTM Moto3 washed away and he crashed out of the lead. Joe Francis pounced upon the opportunity and claimed his second victory of the year, closely followed by Joe Irving and Tarran Mackenzie.
Brad Ray claimed the 125 victory on his return to the Motostar class ahead of Banks Racing's Ed Rendell and Stephanie Waddelow. Callum Bey fought of Peter Sutherland to take seventh, with Taz Taylor and Bradley Hughes rounding out the top ten.
