Snetterton BSB: O'Halloran hails 'unbelievable' maiden race win

Honda Racing’s Jason O’Halloran clinched his debut MCE British Superbike win during the opening race at Snetterton, and has hailed the victory as ‘unbelievable’.

O’Halloran has been developing the Fireblade and gained maximum points for his team today in race one. In the final event the Australian missed out on a podium position, but was caught up in a battle for the final rostrum spot with Tyco BMW’s Michael Laverty and JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Leon Haslam, with the Northern Irishman snatching third from the duelling trio, with the Honda man crossing the finishing line in fifth.

But a first and fifth place finishes means O’Halloran bagged his biggest points haul of the season so far, and is in contention for a place in the Showdown, after ending the race weekend third in the overall standings with a healthy 116 points haul.

“Race two was OK it was a little bit disappointing after the high of race one but a first and a fifth is my highest points score round this year and that is good and we have moved up to third in the championship - so taking the positives from this weekend we have done good job,” said O’Halloran speaking to bikesportnews.com at the track.

“I feel like I have improved my pace to be in the front group now as in the last few rounds I feel that we have been off the back of it. That is what racing is about you have good ones and bad ones. If fifth can be a bad one for me battling with Haslam and Laverty I will take that and I think it has been a good weekend.”

O’Halloran after race one added: “What a race. Battle for the first win with my team-mate doesn’t get much better and it was a drag race to the line. So to get my first win like that is unbelievable and I am just peaking.

“We made a change for warm up and another slight change for the race and it was good. I felt comfy and felt like I had a decent pace and I think I was quicker than the Superpole lap yesterday.

“The tyres were wearing quite bad and the middle part of the race I was trying to conserve the tyre and try and get to the end. The guys gave me great signals and we had a gap and raced to the line.”
