Snetterton BSB test: Lowes tops timesheets

Samsung Honda rider Alex Lowes topped the MCE British Superbike timesheets on the second day of official testing at the Snetterton 300 circuit.

Even with the freezing temperatures the second day of BSB testing at Snetterton went ahead as planned, with many of the riders making up for lost time after the snowy weather conditions halted track time yesterday. Not every race team tested today and absent from the paddocks were Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki, Lloyds British GBmoto Honda, and Quattro Plant Kawasaki teams, to name but a few.

Lowes clocked the fasted time of the day during the first session this morning, setting a time of 1’51.407. The Lincolnshire lad did not go out on track after lunchtime as his team felt he did all he could in session one.

“It was good out on the track today, but it was a bit frustrating stopping for dinner. In the morning session the bike felt good and everything felt alright, but the track was still a bit cold. But I am enjoying the bike, and I am feeling pretty confident. The conditions are not good enough to really push for some competitive lap times, so the team decided not to ride this afternoon, but we shall see what happens at Brands," said Lowes, speaking to bikesportnews.com at the circuit.

Milwaukee Yamaha rider James Ellison made his debut on the Snetterton 300 track today and managed to get some fast lap times under his belt. In the second session he set the second fastest lap time of 1’52.249, just behind Tyco Suzuki rider Josh Brookes.

Australian Brookes had a productive day out on track and topped the second session

with a time of 1’51.959, and was less than a second behind Lowes in session one. Padgett's Honda rider Jakub Smrz made his maiden appearance out on the track today and clocked some fast times, and was in the top five in both sessions. Lowes’ teammate Ryuichi Kiyonari set the fourth fastest time in the first session, but like his fellow Samsung Honda teammate he did not venture out on track for session two.
